The Vintage Discovery of a Lifetime!

Happy Monday! So I know I’ve been kinda deep and really introspective lately, but best believe I am all of those things AND will continue to be a Thrift Queen until the day I die!

So in true fashion (you see what I did there?), I just had to share one of my latest and greatest thrift treasure stories with you! Last month, I attended the absolutely gorgeous wedding of my dear law school friends Ade and Lola. And because I know how they roll, I knew I couldn’t just wear anything for their special day. Also, who would I be if I did such a thing anyways? Ha!

If you know me, you know that I would much rather spend the time and energy to hunt for a thrifted/vintage treasure that is unique and absolutely fabulous than just buy something off of a shelf at your local retail store. That’s just not my style.

So I went on the hunt! My little sister and I planned a trip to New York City for a few days in August and I decided that I was leaving New York with a dress for my friends’ wedding. I searched high and low. I went to numerous thrift stores around New York City and couldn’t find anything. I even dragged one of my friends to the Upper East Side to hit up the consignment stores to see what we could find. And I was actually willing to pay quite more than I’m used to because I was committed to finding the perfect dress. But I couldn’t find anything that really spoke to me!

Then it happened. It was honestly like a movie. On a rainy Sunday evening, just a few hours before I was to head back to D.C., I walked across the street from my Airbnb in East Village and stumbled upon a vintage store. I almost didn’t go inside because everything was priced by the pound, so I figured everything was going to be super expensive. But oh was I wrong!

Can you tell I was feeling myself in my vintage treasure?!

In between a bunch of vintage tees and dresses, I found this AMAZING vintage emerald green gown. I almost screamed when I saw it. And I nearly fainted when I tried it on and it fit me damn near perfectly! Aaaaaah! And OMG just wait it gets better. So most of the items in the store were about $12.99 per pound. I thought the gown might be priced more or just be very heavy because of all of the beading, but NO! The dress came out to be about $15!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am still flabbergasted! I’ve been thrifting for over a decade now and NEVER have I EVER found something so perfect, in such great shape, and so affordable. Like ever!

This dress gave me literally everything I wanted. I wanted to feel sexy, but super classy. The split, the cutouts, and the beading were EVERYTHING! You see that highlight too though? Zaaaaaamn!

I wound up getting a few alterations to make the split a bit higher and the hem taken out a little because I’m kinda tall. That was an extra $40. So in total $55 for this dress! What a find!

Once I saw the back of the gown, I was SOLD! So beautiful!

Friend: But how does it also fit your booty though? Me: I don’t even know, but I’m just gonna thank God! HAHAHA!

With that being said, never give up on your thrift dreams. And when it comes to special occasions, thrifting is always my go-to option. I got so many compliments on this gown and it took everything in me not to scream from the top of my lungs how much I paid for it! I have officially crowned myself as a Thrift Queen after finding this gown.

If you ever find yourself in New York City, I’d suggest you check out Flamingos Vintage Pound in East Village. It is pretty tiny, but full of amazing pieces. I will do a haul on the other great treasures I purchased from them soon. They also have a location in Houston, so check them out!

Do you have a similar thrift discovery? Isn’t that feeling of finding the perfect thrifted treasure like totally unmatched?! Let me know in the comments!

As always, Happy Thrifting!

xoxo

P.S. Don’t forget to subscribe! I have a few exciting things coming up for all of my fellow thrifters! I’m also highly considering starting a Youtube channel about my thrifting adventures, beauty, health, and maybe I’ll throw in some life lessons in there too. Hmm let me know what you think in the comments!
