Officially Official: I’m a Lawyer Now!

I’m a lawyer! Geez, that sounds so weird. I feel like I’m talking about someone else! Haha It’s been such a long road to becoming an attorney that it feels pretty surreal now. I’m sure it will set in when I have my first court date or my first huge stack of paperwork or something. In the meantime, I’m pretty much floating and in a haze.

Exactly a week ago, I was sworn into the New York Bar as a Licensed Attorney! As everything has gone leading up to this point, even the swearing-in process was stressful, but gratifying in the end.

First, I was scared because our plane to Albany was super tiny and ahem one word – Aaliyah – so I prayed the entire way there. Then I get to my hotel only to realize I booked a roach motel! I was so scared being there that I was almost in tears. It was so bad that I had to call 3 taxis (yes, call a taxi because there is no Uber in Albany) and wait in the lobby for 3 hours because the motel was blacklisted and no one wanted to come pick me up to take me to my new hotel 😦

On Wednesday, I had to call another cab to get to my interview, which lasted all of 5 minutes. Yes, I flew to Albany from DC for a 5-minute interview in a town where there’s literally nothing to do. Thank God for Netflix!

The night before, I was trying to decide between a traditional suit and wear this cool dress I recently found on my latest thrifting trip. Be on the lookout for my thrifing HAUL. I racked up!

I ultimately decided to go the traditional route. I figured my twistout and red lips were unique enough. I also wore this absolutely PERFECT thrifted button down with lace detail and thrifted earrings that were a graduation gift from my best friend. ❤

The following day was the swearing-in ceremony where I ran into one of my colleagues from Howard Law! All 538 of us gave the oath together and bam! A bunch of new baby lawyers were born!

So glad my mom and cousin were there with me for the occasion. Couldn’t have done it without my family’s love and support 🙂

I keep thanking God over and over again for everything that I’ve been through to get to this point in my life. I know I couldn’t have done it without His grace and my faith in knowing that He will always take care of me even when I don’t know what to do to take care of myself. I really hope that I can be an example for others in confirming that your dreams can come true. With some elbow grease, persistence, and a little faith, you can do anything you want! I’m so excited for what my future has in store for me and for anyone and everyone who is trying to reach their goals and aspirations. We got this!
